Conductors Galore

Pour yourself a coffee and check out this website. Concert footage of most of the great conductors is at your fingertips. My current favorite is Dudamel conducting “The Unanswered Question”. Some of the links are promos but most are from actual concerts. Let me know what you find.

Happy Thanksgiving to my American colleagues.

Re-Rite Stavinsky

Check this site out! Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Phiharmonia Orchestra have teamed up in order to put you in control of Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring”. You can balance the ensemble so you can hear all the moments you have seen in the score but never heard on recordings.

Is Glitz Good For Classical Music?

Another great Dudamel reference. Livingston makes some interesting points. What do you think?

Lead Like The Great Conductors

Thanks to Denise Grant for posting this video on Facebook. If you are not aware of Ted Talks, take it upon yourself to check out the other video offerings on their site. Although this video is geared towards business types, I believe it offers great insight for those who live on the podium. Check it out!

Heading North

We are checked into our flights for our brief trip back to Canada. We will have one night with family before jumping over to Thunder Bay where I will conduct the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra in their opening Pops concert with blues artist Rita Chiarelli. There are 2 rehearsals on Friday and a dress Saturday morning. Downbeat in Saturday night at 8 PM. The CD we recorded in 2007, Uptown Goes Downtown, is available on iTunes and at Amazon.

If you have not heard Rita Chiarelli, I strongly recommend that you do so. A quick Google search will bring up some great footage. She has a voice like nobody I have heard. The charts with the orchestra are great and I think do a wonderful job in bridging the worlds of classical and blues.

Off to pack some warmer clothes.

Post-recital…

Well, the recital day has come and gone.  I would just like to thank the players for a great performance and my colleagues for all of their help!  Thanks also to those who came out for the concert.

Watch for video clips coming soon.  Here is the link to the recording of Andrew’s piece, “This Primordial, Threatening Noise…”

Also… I’m headed back to TBay!  It was confirmed last week that I will be returning to conduct the TBSO’s Pops season opener with blues artist, Rita Chiarelli, on October 24.

DMA Lecture/Recital

Hello,

If you have somehow stumbled upon this website, welcome! It is far from finished. I am in the middle of my DMA (conducting) degree at Arizona State University and my major lecture/recital  is just over three weeks away. Rehearsals start Tuesday. For those interested, the repertoire is as follows:

Stravinsky – Symphonies of Wind Instruments (1947)

KancheliMagnum Ignotum (1994)

Ardizzoia – “This Primordial, Threatening Noise” (2009) – World Premiere

Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks.
